The Resort

[ Summer ]

Oz en Oisans ('Oz') is one of the five resorts on the Massif des Grandes Rousses, which also includes Alpe d'Huez and Vaujany. Oz offers a vast array of exhilarating activities yet also peaceful pass times too throughout the winter season.

Oz combines 10 hamlets and a mountain resort in a harmonious setting with high quality facilities you would only expect to find in a much larger resort. Oz has 2 bubble lifts that connect directly into the main areas, Alpe d’Huez and Vaujany. From Chalet Le Sabot you can be at 2800m in less than 20 minutes and at Pic Blanc (3300m) in another 10. From here, challenge yourself to tackle the 'Sarenne', the longest black run in Europe!

Winter activities enjoyed by visitors to Oz include skiing, snowboarding, telemarking and snow-shoeing, ice skating, sledging, ice-climbing and winter mountain walking amongst others. Excellent instructors operate in the village offering private or group lessons for children and adults of all abilities.

Oz en Oisans offers a delightful, weekly events programme starting on ‘change over day’ by a Mayor’s welcome with mulled wine where the endearing community amiability is heart warming.

During the ski season, guests can enjoy the proximity of the resort activities, amenities and those offered by the surrounding area. Ski out of Chalet Le Sabot across the village or straight to the lifts. Drop the kids off at ski school or creche then head off for a fab day on the piste (or off piste!). As it is easy to get around the mountain without transport, thanks to the comprehensive lift system and as you can ski back to the chalet, you really can get a full day in making the most of your precious holiday time.

Oz en Oisans is well prepared for visitors from around the world who come annually to ski from this quaint resort.

The Oz Tourist Office is very helpful, stocks useful information and displays the all important weather report, mountain weather can be inclement.

The Oz creche is delightful, a 2 minute walk (even in ski boots!) from the chalet and offers excellent childcare for children aged between 6 months and 6 years. From the age of 3 there is the option for your child to do a half day on the nursery slopes with ESF and enjoy the rest playing with other children back in the warm!

The resort is pedestrianised ensuring the safety of all the family as you get about, race the kids along on sledges and explore.

Oz en Oisans is a true hidden gem, a well kept secret which is exactly what Chalet Le Sabot guests seek and are delighted to discover. It’s history as a tourist resort is relatively short, only being established in 1998, although a virgin ascent was made from Oz to what is now known as Pie Bayle and l’Etendard in 1874. Oz is proud to have developed and now maintains well, an environmentally friendly kind of tourism which succinctly combines quality and commercial viability in a preserved, unspoiled environment.

Whether you are skiing, boarding, chief photographer or simply a holiday maker you can always enjoy returning to Chalet Le Sabot to relax, perhaps by the log fire with a glass of mulled wine looking out across the balcony to the spectacular views over the mountains and valley.
