Walking & Hiking

Located in the very heart of the Ecrins National Park, walkers, hikers and nature lovers can absorb this unspoiled, untamed area with exceptional natural heritage with every step.

Home to an extraordinary range of fauna and flora as well as fascinating geological features, each trail leads you on a path of discovery. As the summer warms the snow capped mountains, waterfalls are a common and wholly refreshing feature on many trails.

There are many glaciers in the region which can also be explored if you’re wearing crampons. The breathtaking views and peaceful aura the ice generates is sensational, whilst exploring crevasses and listening out for the creaking sound of the ice shifting is exciting!

From an easy stroll to an adventurous hike you can follow marked routes, several of which start in Oz en Oisans and can be as short or as long as you desire. We recommend you hire a guide for such excursions or any walking trips of significant length or particular level of difficulty. Day or half-day group walks are also organised by local, certified mountain instructors who will not only guide you safely but also impart their knowledge and teach you about the mystifying mountains.

Ice hiking or summer skiing are also possible during the summer months!
